Muncie – Dale Earl Schell, 86, a resident of Muncie for 23 years, died, September 23, 2018, at Westminster Village. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019.
Mr. Schell was born in Dayton, OH to Elva Mae Sullivan and Donald Joseph Schell. He attended local schools and graduated from Fairmont High School in Kettering, OH. He graduated with a B.S. in Business from Miami University in Oxford, OH where he was a member and president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps for four years.
After service he returned to Dayton with his wife, the former Judith Hazelton of Muncie, whom he married in 1955. His first job was a division manager of Frigidaire Division, General Motors Corp in Dayton. His business career culminated with General American Transportation Corp in 1988. He served as sales manager of GARD (Chicago research division of GATX) and in Washington, D.C. as director of government affairs for GATX Corporation, Chicago, IL.
The Schell’s retired from Washington, D.C. area to Hilton Head Island, S.C. until 1995 when they moved to Muncie to be closer to family. His professional memberships in Washington included the Business-Government Relations Council, Coalition for Employment through Exports, Railway Progress Institute, Washington Industrial Round Table, president; American League of Lobbyists, charter member.
In Muncie he was a 13 year volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was a member of St. George Episcopal Church in Kettering, OH.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judith; daughter, Catherine Hazelton Schell (Michael) Galliher; grandchildren, Jennifer Anne Galliher, Julia Elizabeth Galliher (Hunter) Peebles, Patrick Boyce (Liza) Galliher; a great-granddaughter, Charlotte Pearl Galliher; nephews, Charles Joseph (Tina) Schell, Randal Drake (Patricia) Schell, Steven Joseph (Deborah) Schell, and Jane Marie Schell (Vincent) Gaglione. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Anne Elizabeth; and a brother, Donald Charles Schell.
