Dolores Jean “Dee” (Tighe) Frischkorn, 88, passed away on July 28, 2018 at Westminster Village with her daughters at her side.
She was born September 13, 1929 in Gary, IN as the only child of Lavette G. and Nina F. (Meech) Tighe. She was a graduate of Gary Horace Mann High School. Dolores came to Muncie to attend Ball State University where she earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees in education as well as her education specialist in gifted and talented. She married William R. Frischkorn on September 4, 1950 and enjoyed nearly 45 years of marriage before his death in 1995.
Dolores taught at Sutton, Gaston and Yorktown but spent the majority of her career at Delaware Community Schools where she taught at the elementary and middle school levels and started the gifted and talented program.
She believed in giving back to her community. Dolores was a Girl Scout leader and followed that with many years on the Girl Scout council board. Wapehani Girl Scout Council gave her the Thanks Badge, adult scouting’s highest honor. She was a Delaware County Master Gardener and an IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital
volunteer where she logged more than 10,000 hours of service. Dolores was an active member of Westminster Residents Association where she held almost every officer position.
Dolores was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and had belonged to Chi Omega sorority, Riley Jones Club, American Association of University Women and Delaware County Retired Teachers Association.
She loved to travel whether it was camping with the family or cruising the world. Dolores enjoyed Ball State and Muncie Civic Theatre productions and was a longtime Ball State football and basketball season ticket holder.
Dolores is survived by her daughters Mary Ann (Mark) Wright and Carol E. Seals, Muncie; grandchildren Evan (April) Wright, Laingsburg, MI, Laura (Michael) Kelly, Penfield, IL, and Seth (Kelci) Wright, Muncie: great grandchildren Adeline and Emmett Wright, Elijah and Anna Kelly and Grace Wright; a niece and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers and because of her love for education, memorial contributions may be made to the William Frischkorn Scholarship at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital Foundation, 2401 W. University Avenue, Muncie, IN 47303 or Westminster Residents Association Employee Tuition Grant Fund, 5801 W. Bethel Avenue, Muncie, IN 47304.
Her family wishes to thank the staffs of Westminster Village and IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital cardiac progressive care for their excellent care.
Friends may call at St. Francis Of Assisi Catholic Church, 1200 W. Riverside Avenue on Friday, August 3, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A funeral mass with Father Brian Doerr will follow at 1 p.m. Per her wishes, a private family burial will be conducted at Elm Ridge Memorial Park Mausoleum.
