MUNCIE – The spirit of Hazel Fern Kemmer, 94, passed-on on Thursday, February 22, 2018, with her loving daughter by her side.

She was born on a farm near Converse, IN on July 21, 1923, the daughter of Walter E. and Nellie V. (Thomas) Kemmer.  Her family soon moved to a farm north of Muncie, where she grew-up with two brothers, and graduated from Royerton High School.  She enjoyed playing the piano and visiting with friends, and she always loved being out in the country.

Growing-up on a farm, Hazel helped with the farm work, and continued to be involved with farming most of her life.  After graduating from high school, she started a family, and took courses at Ball State University and Indiana Business College.  She worked for various employers in the Muncie area, including Muncie City Schools, a tire distribution company, a law office as a legal secretary and the Social Security Administration.  She also owned and/or managed several restaurants at different times, and owned/leased a few rental properties, which led her to a real estate broker’s license.

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Ann Dawson of Muncie; and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two former husbands, William R. Macdonald and Franklin L. Dawson; a son, Steven Rex Macdonald; two brothers, Frank R. Kemmer and Charles T. Kemmer; and a niece.
