Muncie – Herbert Garrett Jester, Jr., 93, passed away Sunday evening, June 10, 2018, at The Woodlands.
He was born in Muncie on July 25, 1924, the son of Herbert G. Jester, Sr. and Freda (Jones) Jester. Herb graduated from Muncie Central High School and served in the US Army during WWII.
Mr. Jester received a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from General Motors Institute and was employed at Muncie Chevrolet for thirty-eight years prior to his retirement. He also volunteered at Ball Memorial Hospital for twenty-three years (over 10,000 hours).
He was an active member of Avondale United Methodist Church since 1928. Herb was a member of Delaware Lodge F&AM #46 PM, York Rite Order of the Purple Cross, and Scottish Rite Valley of Fort Wayne.
Surviving are his wife of over seventy-one years, Eleanor L. Logan Jester, whom he married on November 15, 1946; three children, Sue Metzcar (Mike), Evelyn Jester, and Robert Jester (Sandi); eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Charlotte (Jester) O’Bryant; and an infant daughter, Helen Jester.
Masonic services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery with Military Rites by the US Army and Veterans of Delaware County.
Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday or one hour prior to services on Saturday.
