MUNCIE – Homer J. Bradburn, Jr., 87, passed peacefully from this life early Thursday morning, August 10, 2017 at Westminster Village in Muncie.

Homer was born December 3, 1929 on Muncie’s south side and grew up there the only child of his parents Homer J. Bradburn Sr. and Charlotte Arlene (Reed) Bradburn. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 59 years, Lucille (Tutterrow) Bradburn, who passed away August 30, 2011.

A proud Bearcat to the end, Homer graduated from Muncie Central with the Class of 1949. A star athlete in three sports at Central, Homer attended Purdue University on a football scholarship. He was elected to the Delaware County Athletic Hall of Fame in 1980 for his prowess on the gridiron. The Korean War interrupted Homer’s athletic career, and he entered the United States Army and served in that conflict. Homer returned to Muncie and graduated from Ball State University in 1957.

Homer was a self-made man from humble beginnings, and rose to become a successful businessman with multiple automobile dealerships in central Indiana as well as real estate and restaurant investments. He started as a salesman on the floor for Dixon-Duhigg Cadillac, and thanks to his folksy style, sense of humor, love of people, and a keen sense for the business, rose to become President and owner of the Muncie car dealership Bradburn Cadillac-Oldsmobile-Honda. He retired from the business in 1999. Through the years Homer made many friends in the automotive business, had thousands of loyal customers, and mentored many young employees. With his sincerity and friendly demeanor, he could sell anything to anybody, any day and any time. He loved cars to the end, traveling to the Barrett-Jackson classic car auction in Scottsdale in 2015 with his son Michael, and checked that off his bucket list.

Homer and Lucille loved and lived life to the fullest, traveling the world and making friends everywhere with his incredible personality, fascinating stories, and sense of humor. He never met a stranger, or if he did, they didn’t remain strangers for long. An avid golfer, Homer is one of the few individuals to ever score a hole-in-one on a par 4 at Delaware Country Club. Homer will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him, but we rejoice in his resurrection and that he has been reunited with his beloved wife Lucille.

Homer’s deepest passion was for his family. He was cared for daily for the last six years by his devoted daughter Vicki Bradburn Shockley (husband, Scott) of Muncie, and they shared many good times.  Homer is also survived by his son Michael J. Bradburn of Fishers, Indiana; and the apple of his eye, his granddaughter Bailey Bradburn, a sophomore at Arizona State University.  Homer’s extended family includes cousins John Bradburn, Carolyn Bradburn, Larry Bradburn (wife, Debbie), and Phillip Bradburn.

Services for Homer will be at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, August 15, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 2700 W. Moore Road, Muncie, with Rev. Katherine Reider officiating.
