MUNCIE- James “Mike” Johnson, 73, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday evening, September 11, 2018 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born on September 23, 1944 in Muncie, the son of Paul M. and Frances Elizabeth “Nene” (Morris) Johnson. He attended Muncie Central and Southside High Schools. On May 14, 1965 in Muncie, he married Karen Ann Neiswander.
Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He worked for General Motors for 31-1/2 years and was a member of Full Gospel Temple for 37 years, where he proudly served as a security guard.
He enjoyed the outdoors and fishing was his greatest joy. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Karen Ann Johnson of Muncie; two daughters, Debra White (husband, Devin) of Berwick, ME and Tamara Hunt (husband, Matt) of Albany; one son, Michael Johnson (wife, Misty) of New Castle; ¬¬eleven wonderful grandchildren whom he was so proud of and loved so much, Kaili Varley (husband, Dale) of Rochester, NH, Adam Chapman of Berwick, ME, Kirsten Chapman of Berwick, ME, Aaron Chapman of Berwick, ME, Madison Savage of Indianapolis, Mason Hunt and Maggie Hunt, both of Albany, Ronni Johnson, Michael Cole Johnson, Camryn Lee Johnson, all of New Castle and Jessica Tanner of Olathe, KS; he was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, Charlotte Grace and Natalia; one sister, Shari Massie (husband, Jim) of Muncie; one brother, Paul Johnson (wife, Katrina) of Gruetli-laager, TN; sister-in-law, Linda Amos of Muncie; brother-in-law, Greg Tanner of Muncie; half-sister, Paula Soddars of Muncie; one aunt, Lila Tweedy (husband, Clifford) of Gaston; many nieces and nephews; and he also leaves behind many wonderful close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mona Ullman and Virginia Perkins.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Full Gospel Temple, 212 W. 7th Street, Muncie, with Pastor Denny Helton officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.
Family and friends may call at Full Gospel Temple, 212 W. 7th Street, Muncie from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Full Gospel Temple for the youth department, 212 W. 7th Street, Muncie, IN 47302.
