WARSAW – John L. Deeds, 76, formerly of Muncie, passed away on Sunday morning, April 2, 2017 at his residence.

He was born on April 21, 1940 in Randolph County, the son of Freddie and Georgia O. (Laughlin) Deeds. John graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1958 and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Ball State University. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era from 1963-1965. On June 30, 1995 in Greenville, Ohio, he married Norma A. Cox.

John worked for Borg Warner for 38 years until his retirement in 2006. He loved oldies music, doing genealogy research on the computer, was a Bronco’s and Payton Manning fan, and loved living on the lake and fishing.

Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Norma Deeds of Warsaw; five children, David Deeds of Jacksonville, FL, Mary Beth Mills (husband, Ricky) of Jacksonville, FL, Christine Deeds of Connersville, Rodney Cox (wife, Cindy) of Elwood and Kendra Cox of Greentown; ten grandchildren, Keisha, Mason M., Georgia, Sarah, Crystal, Cody, Tyler, Mason C., Kyle and Haley; one great-granddaughter, Ava; two brothers, Willard Deeds of Parker City and Ronald Deeds (wife, Ina) of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law, Mary Deeds of Ft. Wayne; several nieces and nephews; his former wife and mother of his children, Mary Catherine Deeds of Jacksonville, FL; and special friends, Randy Marty of Warsaw and Joe Metych (wife, Peggy) of Warsaw. He will also be sadly missed by his two best canine companions, Miki and Benji.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Alan Deeds in 2006; one brother, Russell Deeds; one sister, Susan Hernley and a half-sister, Darlene Deeds.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Reverend Sherrie Drake officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the United States Air Force and the Veterans of Delaware County.

Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017.
