Kay E. Burress, 77, passed away Sunday October 7, 2018, surrounded by family at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 5, 1941, in Auburn, Indiana, the daughter of Rev. Frank and Ruth (Myers) Stevenson.  Kay graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1959 and attended Ball State University for two years.  Kay was accepted to TWA Airlines to be a stewardess but always said she got “Rings instead of Wings”, marrying the love of her life, James C. Burress in 1962.

Mrs. Burress worked as a Librarian on the Book Mobile before working as Office Manager for Dr. Dietz and Dr. Bergwall.  She later worked in the Muncie Community Schools.

Kay loved her family more than anything.  She also loved the beach, creating and sending an annual Christmas card, and the Indianapolis 500, where her two favorite memories were doing 2 laps around the track at 180 mph and meeting Mario Andretti, in 2017.  Kay enjoyed attending sporting events of the grandkids, crossword puzzles, and spending time with friends.

Mrs. Burress was known for her random acts of kindness and a kind heart, especially with special needs students at Muncie Southside High School.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James C. Burress; two daughters, Julie Dyann Hale (husband, Mark) and Jill Ellyn Brooks (husband, Mark); four grandchildren, Jamie and Cassie Brooks and Emily and Ryan Hale; her dog Elliot; a brother, Leroy Stevenson; special nieces and nephews, Judy and Bill Fulton, Lynda Strahan, Patty Grady, Monta Parsons, John and Sharon Burress, and Scott Burress; special cousins, Lynn and Don White, Dan and Darla Gage, and Dr.’s Kim and Bill Rothermel; plus many special friends.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, James Stevenson, a sister-in-law, Barbara Pearson, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Nancy Grady and John and Pat Burress,

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 12, 2018, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 W. White River Blvd., Muncie with Pastor Jerry O’Neal officiating.

Friends and family may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 11, 2018, or one hour prior to services on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you perform a random act of kindness in honor of Kay.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Dr. Jeff Bird and I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital, and the amazing nurses, Dr.’s and staff of Critical Care, who took extra special care of Kay and her family during this difficult time!  They all deserve a Daisy Award!
