YORKTOWN- Lore Erika Cook, passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, IN, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born on January 21, 1928 in Dresden, East Germany to Albine Walther and Charlotte (Nee Richter) Walther. Lore grew up in Dresden helping her mother raise her younger sister and brother while her father was on the Russian Front during World War II. 24 hours prior to the Russian’s occupation of Dresden, she, her mother and siblings fled on the last train out to Kulmbach, Bavaria, West Germany where her father’s side of the family lived. In 1951, she met the love of her life, Edward W. “Ted” Cook, Sr. who was stationed at Wiesbaden Air Force Base, West Germany and they were married on July 3, 1951.

In 1955, they left for the U.S. and were stationed at Otis Air Force Base, Massachusetts. They helped relocate Lore’s mother, sister, and brother to the U.S. to start new lives and careers. Lore and her husband’s U.S. government careers took them all over the U.S. and back to Germany before retiring outside of Scott Air Force Base, Illinois where they resided for 42 years. They relocated to Yorktown, Indiana in 2014 to be closer to their sons.  During Lore’s Civil Service career of 30 years, she was a computer systems analyst and traveled to many Air Force Bases, U.S. and Europe, teaching word processing. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her crossword puzzles and tending to her many house plants. She loved to play Bridge and spend time with family and friends. She was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Belleville, Illinois.

In addition to her loving husband of over 66 years; she is survived by their two sons, Edward W. (Gabi nee Blum) Cook, Jr. and Christopher T. (Marla nee Glaze) Cook; a brother, Hans A. (Kathy) Walther; four grandchildren, Jeri Scott, Charity Fletcher, Jessica Wagner and Ryan Cook; three step-grandchildren, Bronson Curtis, Breque Van Horn and Brogan Curtis; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Barbara K. (nee Cook) Fletcher and sister, Christine (nee Walther) Bolton.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held in Belleville, Illinois and Muncie, Indiana this upcoming Spring as Lore loved the sweet sunshine, flowers and birds of Springtime.
