Muncie – Nancy Jo (Siewert) Shirey, 74, went to be with the Lord Tuesday evening, July 25, 2017, at Westminster Health Care following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Muncie on November 21, 1942, the daughter of Donald and Maxine (Williams) Siewert. She graduated from Cowan High School in 1960 and received her Bachelor of Science and Master’s Degrees from Ball State University.

Mrs. Shirey was a school teacher at Daleville Elementary School for twenty-eight years prior to her retirement in 2001.

She was a member of First Brethren Church of Oakville where she was a Sunday School teacher, active in the choir and bell choir, and enjoyed organizing special meals. She was baptized with Grandma Mary Siewert after a revival. Nancy was also a supporter of Relay for Life, the Muncie Mission, a 4-H leader, and a volunteer at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital since 1996.

Nancy loved family, grandchildren, holidays, neighbors, friends, playing the piano and organ, and sewing.

Surviving are her husband of fifty-seven years, Larry; two sons, Ed Shirey (Marla), Mooreland and Mike Shirey (Lisa), New Haven; nine grandchildren, Molly Grollimund (Daniel), Lauren Grollimund (Stephen), Lindsey Dye (Austin), Amy, Lacy, Drew, Colleenia, Vince, and Nick Shirey; two great-grandsons, Linkoln Dye and Sawyer Grollimund; her brother, Bill Siewert (Debbie), Springport; her sister, Judy Howell (Philip), Union City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Cameron Shirey.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Joe Hines officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday or one hour prior to services on Thursday.
