MUNCIE- Norma Twyman MacKenzie, 97, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.

She was born in Hodgenville, KY on February 24, 1920 to Richard and Winnie Twyman. Her early life was spent in Middletown, KY with her parents and siblings, Harold and Henrida.

Norma’s patriotism motivated her to follow Harold to enlist in WWII. First driving trucks in Long Island with the Motor Transport Division. Later working in signals intelligence with the Women’s Signal Corps in New Guinea and The Philippines. In 2016, Norma was recognized alongside other veterans in an Honor Flight ceremony in Washington D.C. She enrolled in the Ball Hospital Nursing Program, during which she met her husband Bob. She graduated as an RN, Nurse Anesthetist. While raising her daughters she volunteered with Well Baby Clinic and Visiting Nurses Association.

Norma enjoyed hiking, skiing and sailing with her family. Active members of Muncie Sailing Club, they competed in races across America. Norma and Bob loved travel, making trips across America and to almost every continent. They enjoyed many visits with daughters and granddaughters in Muncie, Seattle, Florida and England. Norma‘s full social life included membership in Tri Kappa, McRae Club, Muncie Sailing Club, Flying Scot Sailing Association and several bridge clubs. She had a strong faith and was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church. Norma had a wonderful, long life and was dearly loved. She will be greatly missed by her family, many friends and the larger community.

Norma is survived by her sister, Henrida Twyman Holloway; her daughters, Patricia MacKenzie White and Alison MacKenzie; and her granddaughters, Hayley and Olivia White.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church, 1400 W. Riverside, Muncie.

Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Muncie Mission, 1725 S. Liberty, Muncie, IN 47302 and the Muncie YMCA, 500 S Mulberry Street, Muncie, IN 47305.
