Ron was a US Army paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. After his term in the service, he and his young family returned to Detroit where he worked for Cadillac Motor Company for another nine years. While working at Cadillac, he went to night school at Wayne State University where he studied art education and played drums with a number of local bands in Detroit.

In 1962, Ron accepted a sales position with Indiana Glass Company in Dunkirk, Indiana and moved the family to Muncie. Over the next several years he spent his free time designing and building sets and acting in a number of plays and musicals for the Muncie Civic Theatre. He was also a regular performer in the orchestra pit where he played drums. During this time, Ron befriended a number of local musicians and played for several years with the Countdowns.

Ron was an active parishioner at St. Francis of Assisi in Muncie and was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. After retirement, Ron enjoyed his time at home outdoors doing yardwork and sweeping the driveway.
Ron is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; his children, Donald (Patricia) Kratz, Ronald (Barbara) Kratz, Jr., and Kenneth (Susan) Kratz; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at 10 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Muncie. Visitation will be at 9 am at the Church just prior to the Mass. Entombment will follow at Gardens of Memory, Muncie.
