DUNKIRK- Ronald L. (Yogi) Blakely, 75, passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 10, 1942 in Hartford City, IN, the son of Howard Blakely and Margaret V. (Glascock) Rodgers.
Ronald graduated from Pennville High School in 1960. He married Joyce A. Swimm on August 25, 1984 at their home in Dunkirk. Ronald worked at Armstrong Glass Company in Dunkirk and retired from Chevrolet Muncie after forty and half years of service.
Ronald was co-founder and member of Big Time Operators C. B. Club in Muncie. He was also a member of Sons of American Legion and Crown City Cruisers. He was an avid ham radio operator, he loved his 1930 Ford, 1940 Chevrolet, 1957 Chevy, and his Dale Earnhardt truck. Ronald loved hunting, gardening, and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of thirty- four years, Joyce A. (Swimm) Blakely of Dunkirk; three children, Jeff Blakely (Julie) of Muncie, Randall “Randy” Blakely of Muncie, Carolyn Estrada (Daniel) of Carmel; step-father, Walter Rodgers of Dunkirk; two brothers, Dennis Rodgers (Chris) of Dunkirk and Gary Rodgers of Dunkirk; four grandchildren, Jordan Overholt (Keith) of Muncie, Justin Blakely (Natalie) of Danville, Katherine Estrada of Carmel, and Georgia Estrada of Carmel; five great-grandchildren, Eli, Conor, Eva, Coleman, and Owen; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Ronald Blakely Jr.
A celebration of life will be held at the Willow Lakes Clubhouse, 1501 N. Morrison Rd., Muncie, IN 47304 on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
