Sarah E. Irwin, 98, was called to her home on Saturday, October 7, 2017, surrounded by family.

Sarah was born November 8, 1918 in Huntsville, IN in Randolph County, the daughter of Thomas C. and Nancy (Keister) Sackett.  The family soon moved to Muncie.  She graduated from Muncie Central in 1936 and married Donald L. Irwin in 1938.  She enjoyed sixty-seven years of marriage.

Mrs. Irwin was employed at Schroeder’s Shoes for thirty-four years.  She and Don loved being Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Festival of Trees and Lights for many years.

She was a past matron and 50+ member of the Order of Eastern Star #104, a past Worthy High Priestess, and 50+ year member of White Shrine, and a member of Amaranth #29.  Sarah enjoyed her membership with Gethsemane United Methodist Church, now Garden at Gethsemane Church, and the Very Happy Willing Workers.

Sarah loved to read and enjoyed playing card games with family and friends.  Her constant companion was her beautiful dog, Gracie Sue, who will indeed miss her.

Mrs. Irwin leaves to cherish her memories: three daughters, Peggy Robinette (Kip), Portland, Betty Weist (Jack), Markleville, and Suzzan Giesman (Sam), Muncie; an “adopted” daughter, Theresa Rude, Muncie;  six grandchildren, Sam Weist (Racheal), Terry Robinette, Ben Weist( Margaret), Sarah Webb (Bill), Matthew Giesman, and Moriah Giesman; fifteen great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; granddaughter, Betsy Weist; great grandson, Kyle Robinette; and three sisters, Juanita Griffin, Felicia Ruth Klepfer, and Thelma Driscoll.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, October 14, 2017, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor Tony Collins officiating.  Burial will follow in Fountain Park Cemetery, Winchester.

Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, October 13, 2017, or one hour prior to services on Saturday.  An Order or Eastern Star and White Shrine service will be performed at 7:00 pm on Friday, October 13, 2017.
