MUNCIE – Stephen D. Lykins fought the good fight, ran the race and became an ultimate winner by joining his heavenly Father. He passed away Tuesday evening, July 25, at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne.

Stephen was born to Nina Lykins on December 18, 1942, in Muncie. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Marion D. Lykins. He graduated from Desoto High School in 1961. On June 16, 1990, in Muncie, he married Judy Carpenter Hicks.

Steve worked as a machine repairman and retired from Borg Warner in 2002. He was an avid sports fan rooting for the Muncie Central Bearcats and Ball State Cardinals. He loved to play golf and organized golf outings at his winter home, Rainbow Village Resort in Zephyrhills, Florida.

Steve loved people and loved life, and he was known for his generosity and willingness to help others. Besides wintering in Florida and summering at Lake Tippecanoe in Indiana, he loved to entertain, travel, attend Broadway plays, make tacos and vegetable soup, shop and go to garage sales.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Judy (Carpenter Hicks) Lykins; his four children, Michael Lykins of DeSoto, Mitchell (Lora) Lykins of Winston, GA, Kelly Cooper and Marlon (Angela) Lykins of Albany; a stepson Bradley (Julie) Hicks of Flower Mound, TX; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sherry Carmack (Mike) and Robin Lykins, both of Muncie.

He was preceded in death by his mother and his step-father.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2017 at The Meeks Mortuary, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Road, with Pastor Bob Wyman officiating. Entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Mausoleum.
