MUNCIE – Stephen R. Clifford, 65, passed away on Sunday morning, July 16, 2017 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

He was born on July 22, 1951 in Muncie, the son of Jack Russell and Mary Jane (Oliver) Clifford. Stephen graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1968 and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

He served as an officer with the Delaware County Sheriff Department for 21 years, Eaton Police Department for 25 years and Prairie Creek Reservoir Officer for 25 years. He also worked as a 911 dispatcher for Delaware County.

Stephen was a talented musician who loved music playing for many years in the “Whiskey River” band. He was also a jokester and was good at making people laugh.

Surviving are 5 children, Kimberly Smith of Muncie, Robert Clifford (wife, Candy) of Eaton, MeLissa Stiffler (husband, Chris) of Hartford City, Stephen J. Clifford (wife, Shoshannah) of Yorktown and Starling Snyder of Muncie; fourteen grandchildren; one brother, David Wayne Wagner of Pendleton; two sisters, Linda Smith (husband, Charlie) and Betty Numemaker, both of Goshen; his uncle, Tom Oliver of Muncie; and his faithful dog, Romo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jeremy Moon; his step-mother, Donna Clifford and one sister, Pamela Rigor.

Family and friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary, Washington Street Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. Per Stephens’s request, casual attire is requested.
