Muncie – Virgil Warren, Jr., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 30, 2018, he died naturally at home after a long and fulfilling life. He is now Home, Whole, and Happy in heaven with his family.
He was born in Indianapolis on January 9, 1923, the son of Virgil Sr., and Elizabeth (Ulrey) Warren, served in the US Marine Corps during WWII on the Pacific Front, from December 1942 until November 1945, serving in New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, and Guam. He was in the Movie Guadalcanal Diaries and graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1946.
Prior to the war he was employed at Ball Brothers and retired as a Marsh Transportation teamster.
Mr. Warren was a member of Shawnee Heights Baptist Church, Moose Lodge #33, and the YMCA where he enjoyed running. He enjoyed motorcycles, bicycling, and sailing, and was adventurous and loved to travel. Virgil was a loving and caring to family and all.
Surviving are two sons, Troy Warren, Yorktown and Terry Warren (wife, Judy), Seguin, TX; six grandsons; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of sixty-four years, Octavia “Tave”; his son, Tim Warren; and four sisters, Opal, Fay, Reva, and Elizabeth.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery with Military Rites by the USMC and Veterans of Delaware County. A dinner will be held after the burial at Shawnee Heights Baptist Church.
Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday or one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
