In 1844, Amos and Nancy Means Meeks arrived in “Munseytown” after a 16-day trip via horse-drawn wagons from what is now northern West Virginia. Their oldest son, Robert Meeks, came to Muncie to work as an apprentice with pioneer cabinetmakers, which often doubled as undertakers.
