SOUTHPORT, CT – Ann Anthony Brophy, 88, passed away on November 23, 2019,  a Muncie native and daughter of the late Dr. Harvey Mitchell Anthony and Ruth Leffler Anthony and was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles G. Brophy.

She was born in Indianapolis on January 14, 1931, Ann grew up in Muncie and attended its schools. She was a graduate of the Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing and English Literature.

After graduating college, Ann moved to New York City and worked with Broadway playwrights for 10 years. It was in New York City that Ann met the love of her life, Charles G. Brophy, who was a financial journalist at the time.

After their marriage in 1961, Ann and Charles settled in Southport, CT, where they raised three children. Ann continued her writing in Southport and became the published author of several poems and short stories and eight books for children. She taught Writing for Children at Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT for 10 years.

Ann was an avid skier and tennis player and enjoyed painting with watercolors and tap dancing with the Black Rock Tapettes at venues around Fairfield County, CT.

While in Southport, Ann was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and, in her later years, Southport Congregational Church. She ensured her children learned of and worshipped God at an early age by having them join Trinity Church’s youth choirs.
