MUNCIE – Clare S. Peckinpaugh, 81, of Muncie, beloved wife and mother, passed away on Monday, January 4, 2021.

Clare was born on January 2, 1940, in New Jersey to the late John William and Anita Marie Stutz.

She graduated from Notre Dame College of Cleveland and later went on to get a degree in Physical Therapy from Case Western in Ohio.  She worked as a physical therapist with Visiting Nurses Association of New Jersey for nearly 30 years.

There was never any doubt how much she cared for her family. Clare loved doing things with her grandkids. She was an intensely loyal and strong, loving lady. She loved adventure, always finding the most interesting vacations to take with her children. In her younger years she was an avid reader and could be found reading, if only just a paragraph while waiting for a traffic light to change. Clare was also an avid bridge player and a member of the Muncie Duplicate Bridge Club.

Those left to cherish her memories and share her stories are her husband, Darrel Peckinpaugh, two sons, Doug (Annie) Helmacy of Hillsborough, NJ, John (Lisa) Helmacy of Short Hills, NJ, two daughters, Janis Picillo and Karen (Brian) Zabel of Yorktown, two sisters Patricia Helmacy, Jane (Neil) Slattery, one brother, John Stuz, 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Douglas Helmacy and Charles Smith.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Saturday, January 9, 2021, with a private family viewing prior to service.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Delaware County CASA or St. Vincent De Paul Society of Muncie.

The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel is in charge of arrangements and online condolences may be sent to the family at www.meeksmortuary.com.
