MUNCIE- Cophine Shideler, 89, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at Westminster Village Retirement Community.

She was born in Alexandria on February 11, 1932, the daughter of William and Augusta (Moore) Stubblefield.  Cophine graduated from Alexandria High School in 1950, and married Max Shideler on June 9, 1951. They lived several years in the Brookston, IN area where she was employed with Loeb’s Department Store in Lafayette. Cophine was a Window Dresser for Loeb’s and won several awards for her displays.  They moved to Muncie in 1971 and Cophine worked as a Retail Associate for Sears for more than 20 years, until her retirement in 1992.

Mrs. Shideler enjoyed traveling with her husband to many places, including Hawaii, Alaska, Colombia, Europe, Japan, and Tahiti, and they enjoyed finding great places to eat on their travels.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and attended all of their events. Cophine also was a member of Yorktown United Methodist Church for many years and a long-time volunteer at Ball Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by three children, Leigh Peters, Randy (Wendy) Shideler, and Denise (Ted) Shockley;  grandchildren, Shelley Likens, Kyle (Monica) Wilbur, Travis (Nydia) Shockley, and Tiffaney (Eric) McClurg; sixteen great grandchildren, Joey Bourne, Mikey Carter, Darius Carter, Da’Nae Carter, Da’Leigha Wooten, Kaleigh Keith, Karmin Likens, John Likens, Hailey Wilbur, Haiden Wilbur, Maci McClurg, Drake McClurg, Myla McClurg,  Mia Shockley, Olivia Shockley, and Kevin Munoz; a great, great grandchild, Elleigh Keith; and several nieces and nephews.

Cophine was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 64 years, Max Shideler in 2015; a granddaughter, Jennifer Behnke; and three sisters, Pauline Marrs, Evelyn Dwiggins, and Ollie Mae Douglas.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 22, 2021 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor Kate Eames Muhlbaier officiating.  Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, from  12:00 pm until service time at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 22, 2021.

Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Rescue Fund (A.R.F.), 1209 W. Riggin Rd., Muncie, IN 47303.
