ANDERSON – Cuba F. Heston, 90, passed away on Monday evening, June 7, 2021 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson.

She was born on August 24, 1930 in Peony, Kentucky, the daughter of Ralph and Mary Caroline (Pierce) Hessler and graduated from Harrison High School in 1948. On January 28, 1950 in Muncie, she married Lloyd D. Heston, a veteran of the Second World War who served on the USS Monterey, earning seven battle flags in the Pacific theater.

Cuba was a skilled seamstress and created exceptional clothing for her husband and children for many years.  She continued to knit and crochet until the end of her life, sending handmade gifts to relatives and friends. Cuba was also an excellent cook, preparing complicated or simple meals for her family and neighbors for decades.  Intelligent and curious, Cuba continued to learn and grow throughout her life. She loved children and getting to know new people. Most importantly, she was devoted to her husband of 71 years, Lloyd D. Heston of Anderson.

In addition to her husband Lloyd, Cuba is survived by one son, Paul D. Heston (wife, Caroline) of Anderson; one daughter, Carol Heston (husband, Andrew Menard) of Baltimore, MD; granddaughter-in-law, Kathy Heston of Muncie; two step-grandchildren, Lila Menard of New York, NY and Remy Menard of Romania; two sisters, Joann Shaw of DeSoto and Maxine Sanchez (husband, Vaughn) of Ruskin, FL; and former daughter-in-law, Christine Quidir of Muncie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Andrew Heston on April 24, 2021; three brothers, John, Robert and Ralph Hessler; and one sister, Agnes Bruggensmith.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021 at The Meeks Mortuary, Washington Street Chapel with Bishop Keith O’Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
