Goshen – Donald W. Kennedy 88, passed away on Friday, December 28, 2018 at his residence.
He was born on November 3, 1930 in Selma the son of A. Ray and Opal (Clevenger) Kennedy and graduated from Royerton High School. He was attending Taylor University when he was drafted into The United States Army. He served his country honorably during The Korean War from 1952 until 1954 and was assigned to the Chaplain Corp as an assistant to the chaplains and was organist for services. He served with Protestant, Catholic and Jewish chaplains.
Upon returning home Don received a Bachelor of Science in Education Degree from Ball State Teachers College. He earned a Master’s of Arts in Education from Saint Francis College and a Master’s in Secondary Administration and Supervisor from Saint Francis College and Purdue University. Don earned certification in Advanced Resources and Development in Volunteer Administration from Indiana Central University. Don was an associate member of the Indiana Association of Public-School Superintendents.
Survivors include his spouse, Johnnie (Neterer) Kennedy, whom he married May 13, 2006; two sisters, Jackie Parker (husband, Tom) and Janet Kennedy; a son, Joseph Kennedy (wife, Pam); two daughters, Melodee Mostenbocker and Kelee Wagoner (husband, Chris); six grandchildren, Evin Schneider (husband, Ryan), Murphy Kennedy, Mandee Carroll (husband, Nathaniel), Morgan Mostenbocker, Prescott Wagoner and Marin Wagoner; a step-son, Chris Neterer; and a step-daughter, Kim Bays (husband, Bobby).
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Kennedy; and a sister, Beverly Hunt (husband, Don).
Services for Don will be 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Burial will follow in Union Windsor Cemetery with Military Rites by The United States Army and the Veterans of Delaware County.
Family and friends may call from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the mortuary.
Don was a gifted pianist and offered his extraordinary talent as a testimony to his love for Jesus Christ, enriching worship services wherever he performed.
