MUNCIE – Elizabeth “Betsy” (Sulanke) Cartwright, 77, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania on April 13, 1944. She was the daughter of Dr. Robert and Francis Sulanke. She graduated from Muncie Central High School and then earned her degree in Elementary Education from Lynchburg College, Virginia.

After teaching for several years in both Washington and Maryland, she moved back to Muncie and earned her Master’s in Library Science at Ball State University. While raising children, Betsy ran a successful business called BC Sweats out of her home. She was a librarian at Muncie Public Library and Burris Schools, which she enjoyed for many years. She was also a librarian and teacher at Yorktown Community Schools, from which she retired.

Betsy is survived by her husband of 44 years, Stephen Cartwright; five children, Rob Cartwright (Jonna), Rebecca Swander (Dave), Abby Link (James), Andrew Cartwright (Brittany) and Emily Cartwright; six grandchildren, Averitt and Joseph Cartwright, Anna and Cassie Swander, Noa and Zephyr Link; three brothers, Bob Sulanke (Joyce), Thom Sulanke (Carol) and Glen Sulanke.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Betsy was a life-long active member of Hazelwood Christian Church. She was a member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority (Yorktown), many book clubs, and a bible study at High Street United Methodist Church.

Betsy was an avid reader, loved to travel, and faithfully watched Jeopardy! She spent every summer on the shores of Lake Michigan in Pentwater, and it will forever hold her memories. She was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, and doting grandmother. She will be remembered for her class, quick wit, and sense of humor.

Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Hazelwood Christian Church, 1400 W. University Avenue, Muncie.

Family and friends may call at Hazelwood Christian Church, 1400 W. University Avenue, Muncie from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021. Due to Covid-19, masks will be required during both services.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hazelwood Christian Church, 1400 W. University Ave., Muncie, IN 47303.
