MUNCIE – Helen (Marincin) Wells, 88, passed away on February 9, 2021 at The Enclave Nursing Home in Fishers, IN.
Helen was born in Malý Lipník, Slovakia on May 29, 1932. Helen and her mother emigrated to the United States in 1939, prior to the start of World War II, to both rejoin with their father/husband who was employed in Lorain, Ohio. Helen arrived in Lorain, Ohio two weeks prior to the start of school and unable to understand the English language. She maintained a lifelong appreciation for two elementary school educators, who dedicated themselves with after school hours of instruction, to facilitate Helen’s transition for acquiring a new language.
After high school graduation, Helen entered the field of accounting through employment with a Cleveland, Ohio CPA firm. She was rapidly promoted from performing clerical assignments to becoming an office manager. During this time, she attended night classes to further her knowledge of accounting. She was a member of the American Society of Women’s Accountants and was awarded an Ohio Public Accountant’s License. Motherhood deferred Helen’s educational aspirations until 1975, when she was admitted to Ball State University as a 43 year old college freshman. Her goal was fulfilled in July of 1980, by graduating with honors, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Ball State University. Following graduation, Helen was employed with Ball State in the University Controller’s Office.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Dr. Grant J. Wells, her parents John and Mary Marincin, and siblings Mary and Stephen Marincin. She is survived by her two brothers Joseph Marincin (Lorain, Ohio) and John Marincin (Palm Harbor, Florida); two sons Grant M. Wells (wife, Brenda Costello-Wells) of Fishers, and Dr. David Wells of Idaho Falls, ID; three grandchildren Ryan Wells of Fort Collins, CO, Joseph D. Wells of Spokane, WA and Emma Wells of Salt Lake City, UT.
Helen and her husband enjoyed traveling, gardening, and attending sporting and musical events offered through Ball State University. They both enjoyed visits from family and friends. An extended family of dear friends, church members, and colleagues were acquired during their years of residence in Muncie and both were thankful for these interactions and memories.
Helen and her husband were members of St. Mary Parish.

I have often thought about Mr. and Mrs. Wells, neighbors of my grandmother and grandfather on Marsh St. Such nice people. David and Grant, I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you.
