Jack M. Stanton, 81, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson.

Jack M. Stanton, 81, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson.

He was born November 3, 1935, in Mishawaka, the son of Hugh and Beryl (Morris) Stanton.  Jack graduated from Mishawaka High School and Ball State Teachers College.

Jack was an agent for Indianapolis Life Insurance Company for fifty-five years.  He has served his industry in many capacities.  He has belonged to the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors for fifty-five years, the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table for over fifty years, and the American College of Life Underwriters.  He received his company’s Master Life Underwriter Reward in 1997.

Mr. Stanton was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy.  He was a life-long member of Amvets Post 12, American Legion Post #19, and the Society of the 5th Infantry Division.

At Ball State, Jack was President of Theta Chi Fraternity and later served as President of his Alumni Chapter.  He also served as President of the Cardinal Varsity Club, was Chairman of the President’s Club, and twice served as Chairman of the National Alumni Fund.  He received two Benny Awards, which is Ball State’s top award for service to BSU or the BSU Alumni Association.  Mr. Stanton was also a member of Riverside United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife Hattie Mae Stanton, to whom he has been married fifty-five years; his daughters, Deborah Kay Coates, DVM, Halifax, VA, Wendy Lou Haines, CPA (husband, David), Indianapolis; his three precious grandsons, Joseph David Haines, Daniel Jackson Haines, both of Indianapolis, and Jessie Coates, Halifax, VA; his twin sister, Janet Byer, South Bend; a son-in-law, R. Dean Coates, South Boston, VA; many nieces and nephews; and all of his dear friends.

Mr. Stanton was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Neil Stanton, and two sisters, Beverly Wachs and Norma Hawkins.

Friends and family may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017, or one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 28, 2017 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, with Pastor John Young officiating.  Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery, with Military Rites conducted by the Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278, Cystic Fibrosis, 8445 Keystone Crossing, Suite 135, Indianapolis, IN 46240, and American Legion Post #19, 418 N. Walnut St., Muncie, IN 47305.
