MUNCIE – Joseph E. Markins passed away peacefully at Westminster Village Skilled Care on Saturday, February 6, 2021. His life will be celebrated in a private family service at The Meeks Mortuary.

Joe was born on January 30, 1936 in Gaston, Indiana; he graduated from Gaston High School in 1954.  Joe married his sweetheart Elaine Mart in 1956. His career in quality control at Westinghouse/ABB, where he was a proud member of the union, span over 38 years, Joe traveled the US for ABB. Joe was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, square dancing and telling jokes around the campfire.

He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Markins, mother Emma Steele, step-father Orville Steele, and brother, Jerry Markins.

Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elaine, sisters Marge Entrican (Larry), Patty Thurman (Arlen), Anita Reno (Art), daughter Cheryl Green (Scott) granddaughter, Chelsea Stone (Trey), great granddaughter Sofia, and granddaughter Sgt. Michelle Robbins (Ssg. Matt).

Joe and Elaine wish to acknowledge the Mart girls, Martha Knight, Maryann Hensley, and Betty Brammer for their constant love and devotion; as well as a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Abbey at Westminster.  A special thanks to their many friends as well as their extended family at Westminster Village for their prayers and support.

Services will be held privately on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel.

The public may watch the services on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at www.facebook.com/MeeksMortuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Joe requests donations be made to Indiana University School of Medicine to support Parkinson’s research.
