Joseph DuWayne Townsend, 70, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital, after an eight-year battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Joseph DuWayne Townsend, 70, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital, after an eight-year battle with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

He was born May 3, 1947, in Muncie, the son of Elmer and Lena (Hall) Townsend.  Joseph graduated from Monroe Central High School in 1965.  He was an U.S. Army Veteran.

Mr. Townsend retired from New Venture Gear after thirty-one years.

He was a member of Moose Lodge #33, Amvet Post #12, and the Selma American Legion.  Joseph loved cooking, enjoyed pontooning, and riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle and his dune buggy.

Mr. Townsend leaves behind his wife of eighteen years, Anita Dian Townsend; three children, Jennifer Boudreaux, Nicholas Townsend, Cynthia Townsend Agullana (husband, Ryan); step children, Jama Geiger (companion, Greg Hershman), David Locke (wife, Tonya), Wendy Martin, and Craig Locke (wife, Cecille); grandchildren, Nadia and Hunter Agullana, Nikayla Townsend, Caitlyn Kerns, Brennan Yoder, Tyler Locke, Lance Locke, and Casey Lacher; great grandchildren, Cayden, Harmonie, and Saige Lacher, Carter and Amelia Kerns; brother, Phil Townsend; sister, Cathy Sue Townsend; and a sister-in-law, Sarah Townsend; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the mother of his children, Caron Jones Townsend, and a brother, Lloyd Townsend.

A Celebration of Life gathering will held from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Amvets Post 12, 7621 N. St. Rd. 3, Muncie, with Military Rites conducted by the Delaware County Veterans Honor Guard at 2:00 pm on Saturday.  Please join our family in celebration and share your memories of Joe.
