MUNCIE – Marilyn M. McDaniel, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, June 27, 2021 at Westminster Village.

She was born on March 22, 1930 in Mishawaka, the daughter of Howard B. and Minnie (Kane) Voorhees and graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1948. She attended A. Jordan Conservatory of Music at Butler University in Indianapolis. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Music from Indiana State University in Terre Haute. On August 9, 1953 in Mishawaka, she married Paul J. McDaniel, Jr.

Marilyn taught Instrumental and Vocal Music at Salem High School and at Center School in Perry Township, she taught Instrumental and Vocal Music in the 12-grade school. Later, she taught elementary vocal music at Pleasant View in Yorktown. After 30 years teaching elementary music, she retired in May of 1990.

She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Kappa Delta Pi; past president of the Muncie Alumni Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota; Indiana State Retired Teachers; Delaware County Retired Teachers; First Presbyterian Church and the Osceola Chapter #598 of the Eastern Star. Marilyn had been active in the Muncie Civic Theatre and Community Singers which preceded the Masterworks Chorale. She played French Horn in the Muncie Symphony Orchestra, Muncie Hometown Band, Alexandria Community Band and the Westminster Orchestra.

Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Paul J. McDaniel, Jr. of Muncie; two daughters, Melody Scoble (fiancé, Rod) and Melise McDaniel, both of Muncie; two grandchildren, Jim Scoble of Phoenix, AZ and Shelby Scoble of Colorado Springs, CO; one nephew, Larry Thornton (wife, Deb) of Louisville, KY; one great-niece, Kate Thornton of Seymour; a sister, Barb Whitfield; a niece, Dawn Sandlin; and nephews, Craig Whitfield, Mark Whitfield and Keith Sandlin.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

We would like to thank Westminster Village, and the nurses of Bristol, for their faithful and loving care of our mother. We couldn’t have our parents live in a better retirement community. Also, to Betty Meyer, who was Mom’s devoted caregiver for many years and who Mom loved very much.

Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Reverend Dr. Ronald Naylor officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021.

Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Sigma Alpha Iota Alumnae Music Scholarship Fund in memory of Marilyn McDaniel, at Meeks.
