Spencer – Olive “Ernestine” (Watson) Reed born in Terre Haute, Indiana, June 29, 1913 left her earthly body on December 29, 2018 at 105.5 years of age and was reunited with her husband Paul K. Reed who preceded her in death. She is flying high and beautifully with the angels and watching over all of us.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Irene (Vangilder) and Vern Watson, brother Wallace Watson, brother Marcus Watson and a great grandson Brock Gaddis. Surviving her is her daughter, Nellie Irene (Reed) Dudley (Pete); grandchildren Norda (Dudley) Ratcliff (Jimmy), Karen (Dudley) Gaddis (Bob), Kim (Dudley) Poore (Jack), and Kevin Dudley (Jan); six great grandchildren; nine great- great-grandchildren; her sister Ann (Watson) Vencel and many nieces and nephews.
In her early teens she participated in 4-H in Vigo County. Her 4-H leader was Orville Redenbacher. She was designated the healthiest girl in Indiana. She traveled to Chicago with Mr. Redenbacher and was designated third healthiest girl in the United States. She was also in a milk advertisement. She worked at Lowery’s candy for many years when they first opened their doors for business.
Ernestine and her husband enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling to Florida in the winter months. Ernestine devoted herself to her daughter and sisters children and grandchildren and many others. She lovingly shared stories and experiences she had throughout the span of her lifetime. She was an amazing cook and baker. She was well known for her sewing abilities and was a great seamstress. She was an avid basketball fan never missing a Muncie Central Bearcat game at the Muncie Fieldhouse in her early years. She could be heard cheering for Indiana Hoosiers or the Pacers at the nursing home.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Gardenview Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Gardenview Funeral Home.
