MUNCIE – Rachel E. Ford, who was born to Neil and Wyanda Moody on a beautiful day on October 20, 1937, passed away on March 28, 2021 after a long, courageous, and graceful battle with Alzheimer’s.

Following graduation from Selma High in 1955 as Valedictorian, Rachel continued her education at Ball State University where she attended by way of the Storer Scholarship and graduated with a degree in Home Economics. Besides being a brilliant student, Rachel was heavily involved with Delta Zeta Sorority and she continued working with her sorority long after college. Along with staying busy with her studies and sorority, Rachel worked part-time at JC Penney in the Notions department where she met this handsome fellow in the shoe department who had just returned home from the Army. Kenneth (Kenney) and Rachel were married March 16, 1958 at the Selma United Methodist Church and remained married just shy of 57 years until Kenney passed away in March 2016. While they continued building their family, Rachel began employment with the Social Security Administration as a claims representative where she continued working for 33 years. She retired in 1994.

Rachel was an amazing woman! She was a great wife, mom, grandma, aunt, sister, daughter, and friend.  Rachel was a lifelong member of High Street United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir up until a few of years ago. Not only did she work full-time outside the home, Rachel also worked a full-time job at home taking care of four kids, cooking, cleaning, disciplining, educating and being one hell of a listener! Rachel was an avid reader who would finish one novel in a few days and start back at it again with a new book. Rachel also volunteered any extra hours she could find to charity work. She worked many years with the Red Cross and received many awards for her outstanding volunteer work. Rachel was also a member of Altrusa, which took up more of her time. Throughout the years with all of Rachel’s interests and volunteer work, she was always there for her family and friends.

Upon retirement, Rachel continued staying busy helping others. She was able to spend more time with family and traveled extensively throughout the United States and overseas several times with Kenney.

A special thanks to St. Vincent Hospice and to the Southern Care Hospice; Pam, Tamilyn, Jasmine, and Candy…Thank you!
