MUNCIE – Richard P. “Dick” Edwards 92, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Wellbrooke of Westfield.

He was born July 17, 1928 at Home Hospital in Muncie, the son of Johnson P. and Gladys (Keever) Edwards and graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1946. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Purdue University in Metallurgical Engineering in 1950 and received his Professional Engineering License in 1956. He attended 7 schools, including Texas Military while his father was serving as a Colonel on General Patton’s staff. Dick continued the family military service in the U.S. Army for 1-year as Engineering Instructor at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, followed by his service in Korea as company commander of the 445th Ordinance Ammunition Company.

During his 50- year career with ASM (American Society for Metals), he served on the Metal Progress Editorial Committee, Education Council and was a contributing author to Volume 10 Handbook. He was also an international trustee for ASM’s 52, 000 members and Fellows of ASM. Dick also worked for Temco Aircraft as High Temperature Metallurgist on the Polaris Missile. After serving as treasurer of National Metal Products, he joined Borg Warner for 30 years; where he served as manager of Quality and Metallurgy, followed by Manager of Manufacturing for the corporation, assisting divisions in England, Wales, Mexico, Japan and Australia.

Dick was a member of the Exchange Club of Muncie for over 50-years, serving as past-president, former deacon and member of First Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge AF & M #46, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, past president of Catalina Swim Club, member of the American Legion and past board member of Purdue Alumni Club.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends, especially his smiling face and sense of humor.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret “Peg” Edwards of Carmel; one son, James R. Edwards of Noblesville; one daughter, Jean Ann Holman (husband, Rob) of Noblesville; three grandchildren, Jacob Edwards (wife, Ashley) of Ft. Wayne, Stacy Christine Edwards (husband, Mark Leister) of Indianapolis and Victoria Hedges of Carmel; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Lucy Edwards of Ft. Wayne; one sister, Suzanne Paul of Walnut Creek, CA; one sister-in-law, Virginia Hunt of Sacramento, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Rev. Dr. Ronald Naylor officiating. Entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery with full military honors by the United States Army and the Veterans of Delaware County.

Family and friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021 and one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Muncie Exchange Club or First Presbyterian Church, 1400 W. Riverside Avenue, Muncie, IN 47303.
