Shirley Dean McGahey

June 4, 1936 - December 28, 2020

Muncie- Shirley ‘Dean’ McGahey, 84, passed away Monday, December 28th, 2020 at his residence.

He was born June 4th, 1936, in Hartford City, IN, the son of Howard and Pauline (Pierson) McGahey and attended Muncie Central High School.
Mr. McGahey was a truck driver for 55 years. He was a member of the Eagle Lodge F.O.E. He enjoyed his dogs, yard, NASCAR, the Colts, and his beer. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Dean is survived by his sister Janice Maisey (Fred) Sun City, AZ, three children, Shirley McMillian, Fort Wayne, Sharon Rhum (Danniel), Susan Wood (Craig) both of Muncie. Three step-children, Greg Haisley (Susan), Scott Haisley, Joyce King (Matt), all of Muncie, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Along with a wonderful close friend Jannet Mack.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kenneth McGahey, Sr., wife Paddy, and son Ricky Dean.

Funeral services will be held privately at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel.

To my ex-husband that was one of my best friends I talk to him two or three times a week so he call me when he's out and you come home had a few drinks and you call and check on me and Mike there is no man that was just a kind kind of sweets all just like my husband I'm married to now for 29 years but Dean McGahey was the best thing that happened in my life and his father Mac and his family I'm going to miss talking to him you always checked on me after I had my legs amputated he had a true spirit and there's nothing I would have did for him

Dean was a very nice person who always made us feel welcome and at ease. We could tell how much he loved his family and that they felt the same about him. Someone so special will never be forgotten.

It was lovely meeting such a wonderful man, his compassion, tenacity and dedication to family and friends was evident in his welcome of my daughter and I.He shared stories of family, took us to his beloved Eagles, but what I was mostly impressed by is his caring of my sister. He believed in her, her struggles and motivated her to succeed. He guided her in becoming as independent as possible! ! He gave us a lovely tour of Muncie, it as a pleasure to know such a kind and special man, Gods Peace till we all meet again!!
