YORKTOWN – Wanda “Sue” Bousman, 84, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 8, 2021 at Westminster Village surrounded by family.

She was born on October 24, 1936 in Harrison Township, the daughter of Raymond M. and Lela M. (Gray) Ritchie. Sue graduated from Yorktown High School in 1954. On June 16, 1956 in Muncie, she married her high school sweetheart, Bill J. Bousman. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Ball State University in Home Economics/Education in 1966.

God and her family were very important to her. Church is where she played the piano, participated in Sunday School classes, headed up many church dinners and fundraisers.  She was an active member of University Christian Church where she passed on her passion about Operation Christmas Child. Along with her husband, Bill, she served as East Central Indiana Co-Area Coordinators with Operation Christmas Child and had volunteered with them for 25 years. She was a Yorktown 4-H leader for 35 years and served as a 4-H judge. Sue was past president of the Indiana State and the National Rural Letter Carrier Auxiliaries. As president of the National Auxiliary, she spearheaded fundraising for research and education directed to ALS, traveling all over the U.S. advocating for those with this disease. She was an excellent storyteller and public speaker. Sue also enjoyed meeting monthly with her high school ladies of Club ’54 and helped organize YHS reunions. She was a professional seamstress who made numerous wedding gowns (including her own) and quilts for all her grandchildren. Sue also helped as a babysitter and was an excellent cook who will be fondly remembered by her family and friends for her “famous” homemade noodles and her chocolate cookie sheet cake. The pandemic did not stop her. She faced it head on by continuing to prepare family dinners for every holiday by organizing a drive thru from her home. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are four children, Larry David Bousman (wife, Dianne) of Muncie, Keith A. Bousman (wife, Jeanette) of Muncie, Connie Lyon (husband, Shawn) of Findlay, OH and Craig Bousman (wife, Tricia) of St. Pete Beach, FL; mom’s “adopted” daughter, Cindy Morgan (husband, Steven) of Gaston; seventeen grandchildren, Tiffany Turgeon, Chase Bousman, Jessica Bousman, Justin Bousman, Megan Bousman, Landon Bousman, Larry M. Bousman, Jeremy Bousman (wife, Erin), Adam Bousman (wife, Julie), Andy Bousman (wife, Mandy), Eric Bousman (wife, Whitney), Michael Bousman, Mackenzie Lyon, Gabrielle Lyon, Noah Lyon, Morgan Sasser (husband, Phil), Lexie Bousman (husband, Dan); sixteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; one brother, David Ritchie of Muncie; brother-in-law, Larry Bousman (wife, Eula) of Pahrump, NV; sister-in-law, Deborah Haddock of Albany; and nieces and nephews, Scott Ritchie (wife, Libby), Stan Pflueger, Cindy Pflueger and Steve Pflueger (wife, Carrie).

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 63 years, Bill J. Bousman on September 28, 2019; and one sister, Sharon Pflueger.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 14, 2021 at University Christian Church, 2400 N. Nebo, Muncie, with Pastor Steve Huddleston officiating. Burial will follow in Hawk Cemetery, Yorktown.

Family and friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, 2021 or one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, Sue’s family requests that you bring (either to the mortuary or the church) a small toy for a boy or girl (that would fit in a shoebox) or bring a filled shoebox for a child to fulfill her passion for the Operation Christmas Child Ministry. (Go to https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operationchristmas-child/pack-a-shoe-box on how to pack your shoebox). Memorial contributions may be directed to University Christian Church for Operation Christmas Child (please make checks payable to: University Christian Church / memo – OCC), 2400 N.
